Panamanian Rosewood has always stood out as one of the most remarkable tonewoods and rare tropical hardwoods in the world. Its rarity comes from a combination of factors: it grows naturally only in limited areas of Panama and nearby parts of Central America, the trees grow very slowly, and they were heavily harvested for many years because of their stunning color and figure. Craftsmen and collectors have long prized this wood. As the natural populations declined in recent decades, conservation efforts led to strict protections under international agreements such as CITES, making legal harvesting and trade extremely limited. Today, finding genuine, legally sourced Panamanian Rosewood is exceptionally difficult in more like impossible. Available material comes from old stock, reclaimed wood, or carefully managed or long forgotten inventories.
